Mansonella ozzardi are transmitted by the biting midge (culicoides) and black fly (simulium). Periodicity is absent.

Location in the Host

Mansonella ozzardi adults are located in the subcutaneous tissue and possibly in the body cavities. The microfilariae stage of Mansonella ozzardi can be found in the blood.

Geographic Distribution

Mansonella ozzardi is found in South & Central America as well as the Caribbean

Morphology & Diagnosis

Mansonella ozzardi microfilariae have no sheath present and measure 173-240 um in length. The nuclei do not extend to the tip of the tail. The tail is pointy. The nuclei are fine and predominantly separated.
