For sure the Plasmodium are at the top of most deadly parasites if not infectious diseases in the world. It is currently ranked as the 5th deadliest cause of diseases in the world. In 2021 there were approximately 247 million documented cases of malaira globally with 619,000 of those cases dying of the infection. Sadly, 77% of the deaths were children under 5 years of age. The numbers are likely much higher considering undocumented cases are most likely significant.
